Kristoffer Reitan claimed his maiden PGA Tour victory with a dramatic final-round performance at the Truist Championship, edging past Rickie Fowler and Nicolai Højgaard by two shots. The Norwegian held off a packed leaderboard at Quail Hollow Club, carding a final-round 69 to finish at 15-under par.
Alex Fitzpatrick, who entered the final day with a one-shot lead, saw his hopes fade after a double bogey on the 17th hole. The Englishman, playing only his second event since earning his PGA Tour card at the Zurich Classic, ended the tournament tied for fourth at 12-under par. Fitzpatrick had struggled early, going three-over through his first three holes, but rallied with three birdies in four holes after the turn before stumbling on the par-three 17th—the second-toughest hole of the week. He finished with a par on 18.
Reitan’s rise has been rapid. Just three years ago, the 28-year-old was fighting to keep his card on the Hotel Planner Tour, the DP World Tour’s feeder circuit. On Sunday, he surged into the lead with back-to-back birdies on the 14th and 15th holes. “A tremendous amount of relief and joy,” Reitan said. “I can’t put it into words. Even today, I wasn’t quite expecting to walk away with the win. I’m super pleased to be walking away as the champion.” The victory earned him $3.6 million and 700 FedExCup points.
Fitzpatrick, projected to move up to 22nd in the FedExCup standings, admitted mixed emotions. “It’s still very surreal,” he said. “I feel like it’s crazy to be disappointed, but somehow I’m a little disappointed.”
