
Union Berlin claimed a 3-1 away victory over Mainz in the 33rd round of the German Bundesliga on May 10, marking the team’s first win under manager Marie-Louise Eta.
Eta, aged 34, took charge of the Berlin club on April 12 until the end of the season. In her first three matches, Union suffered two defeats and one draw. She became the first female head coach of a team in Europe’s top five leagues.
Eta had been an assistant coach at Union since 2023. During her playing career, she featured for German clubs Turbine, Hamburg, and Werder Bremen.
Union now have 36 points and occupy 12th place in the table with one round remaining. Mainz sit 10th with 37 points.
Goals from Andrei Ilic, Oliver Burke, and Josip Juranovic secured the win for Union Berlin; Sheraldo Becker scored for Mainz. In the final round on May 16, Union will host Augsburg, while Mainz travel to Heidenheim.
