One of Egypt’s most historic clubs falls to the second division
Ismaily has been officially relegated from the Egyptian Premier League to the Professional League after a 2-1 loss to Wadi Degla on Tuesday evening in the tenth round of the relegation play-off stage.
Wadi Degla’s goals were scored by Mahmoud Diasty in the 22nd and 62nd minutes, while Ismaily’s only goal came from Eric Traoré in the 72nd minute.
After this defeat, Ismaily’s points tally remains at 19, placing them 14th and last in the standings. Wadi Degla, meanwhile, sit eighth with 48 points, leading the relegation group.
With only three matches remaining, Ismaily trails tenth-placed Kahraba Ismailia (the first team safe from relegation) by 11 points, making it mathematically impossible to catch up.
This marks the first time the “Daraweesh” have dropped to the lower division in 68 years, specifically since the 1957-1958 season.
Ismaily managed just 11 points in the first stage of the league and added only 8 in the second stage, confirming their relegation to the second division.
Notably, Ismaily was among the relegated teams last season, but the Egyptian League Association decided to cancel relegation, granting them another year. However, they failed to avoid the drop this time.
Ismaily is one of Egypt’s most historic clubs and ranks third in Premier League titles, with three championships, behind only Al Ahly and Zamalek.
